Museum Tours
PLANNING YOUR GROUP VISIT
Washington State’s Essential Academic Learning
Requirements are integral to our
curriculum development. TOUR INFORMATION RESERVATIONS are required for all groups of 5 or more. At lease two weeks advance notice is required for Guided or Discovery tours and is recommended for Self-Guided group visits. Call 360.678.3310. GROUP SIZE: 5 to 25 students. Please call to discuss alternate arrangements for larger groups. FEES are listed by program, and are based on the number of students in your group. PAYMENT may be made at the door with cash, check or purchase order. Checks should be made out to the “Island County Historical Society”. (Pre-payment is not required, but you may pre-pay with a check.) When you arrive, we are happy to adjust the amount of your invoice to reflect the actual group number attending. If you have prepaid, you will get a receipt and passes for absent students. CANCELLATIONS: If you need to cancel for any reason or if you will arrive late, please call 360.678.3310 as soon as possible. If you do not cancel a Guided Tour at least 24 hours in advance, or fail to arrive as scheduled, a $20 penalty fee is charged. CHAPERONES are admitted free with every group! We expect one adult chaperone with every 5-8 students. CONFIRMATION: Two to four weeks before you visit, a confirmation packet will be sent containing an invoice, general information about your visit, and any curriculum materials developed for your program. FOOD: There are no indoor eating facilities for groups. LOCATION AND PARKING: The museum is located on the historic Coupeville waterfront at 908 NW Alexander St., on the corner of Front and Alexander streets. Parking is free however limited. School buses may park parallel along Alexander just south of the museum. TO REQUEST DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS: Please contact the museum at least 10 days in advance: 360.678.3310 PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN, AND GRADE 1 Early Learners Guided Tour This year we are offering a special program for young students who love mammoths and want to know everything about them! Students will learn about mammoths and the Pleistocene Era, explore our Mammoth Gallery with a word and picture treasure hunt, handle some real fossils, and make a special mammoth craft to take home. Students will also explore the Coupeville waterfront and the wharf and pay a special visit to Rosie the Whale. They will explore and learn about the skeleton of our local Gray Whale! Topic: Mammoths and the Pleistocene Era in Island County Tour length: 1 hour Times: M-F 10:00am to 1:00pm (other times available by request or on a space-available basis) Prices: $2.00 per student; Chaperones free GRADES 2 THROUGH 5 Discovery Guided Tours The Discovery Tours will be an exciting hands-on learning experience that includes a combination of individual exploration and observation, group activities, gallery visiting time, and a tour of the Coupeville Wharf. Visits can be limited to different topics or a combination. Please let our educators know of your tour topic requests at the time of tour confirmation. Topics: Mammoths and the Pleistocene Era of Island County, Native Americans on Whidbey Island, Archaeology, Sea Captains and Maritime History, or The Pioneers. Tour length: 1 hour Times: M-F 10:00am to 2:00pm (other times available by request or on a space-available basis) Prices: $2.00 per student; Chaperones free MIDDLE SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE Guided Tours Explore different topics of Island County history. Learn from our experienced educators through a guided gallery tour and guided tour of Coupeville’s historic waterfront, storytelling about our Native American and Pioneer families, and group activities. Tour length: 1 to 1.5 hours Times: 10:00am to 4:00pm Prices: $3.00 per student; Chaperones free |
