HERITAGE NETWORK
MARCH 2008
Greetings Networkers,
Attached are your minutes of the March meeting and the list of
organizations/individuals. Please check over the list to make sure that the
information presented for your organization is up-to-date. If changes are
needed, contact me and/or Joe Walck.
We have a new member – Amy Hannold who offers this introduction –
“Raised on Whidbey Island, I am currently the publicity coordinator for Mothers
of Preschoolers and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oak
Harbor. I help these organizations promote their existence and programs through
the use of press releases, newsletters, website content and scrapbooks (ensuring
our organizations continues into the future, while documenting those we have
served today). These two organizations and my own family which includes
husband, daughter (4) and son (10) inspire me to be a make a difference in our
communities. I have a passion for connecting people to the organizations and
resources which can improve their lives.”
Amy’s own website is listed in the list of organizations.
After hearing of our need for an experienced PR person, Amy has offered to take
over that responsibility. Not only will she handle our press releases, she will
be there to help you and your group to make a stronger presence in the
community.
Next meeting: Wednesday, May 28, 10 am. Mark Preiss will talk about the 20th
anniversary celebration of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. Rick
Castellano is the program contact for this meeting
Thanks to Anita for handling the last-minute secretarial duties.

Island Heritage Network Minutes
March 18, 2008
Hayes Hall, Room 113, Oak Harbor, WA
Members Present: Lynda Richards - Ebey’s Reserve, Betsy Arand - Sno-Isle
Library,
Roger Sherman – Sunnyside Cemetery, Anita Dragoo, Joy Iverson, Peggy Townsdin
Guests: Amy Hannold, Writer & Publicity Coordinator, Wayne and Carolyn
Hansen
After Joy welcomed the group, Roger Sherman introduced the guest speaker, Bobbi
Sandberg, who owns BCCT’g, Bookkeeping, Consulting, Computer Training,
<
bcctg@whidbey.com>, and teaches a variety of computer classes around the
island. She distributed handbooks to accompany her talk about Organizing with
Computers. Her advice included what to look for in a digital camera, how to use
and file the photos, how to make computer folders, putting photos into
spreadsheets, backing up files.
Following the program, Joy asked that members review the updated ICHS web site
chart at <www.islandhistory.org>
and contact Joe Walck, <2jaysdesign@comcast.net>
with corrections or additions.
A request was made for someone to take the role of “Public Relations Contact
Person” which mainly involves sending the meeting information to the island
newspapers.
Next, the members discussed the proposed errata form. Joy suggested a
short note to members on informing the public regarding the steps to be taken in
correcting published errors. Finally the Network decided that it would not
undertake managing a submission center for such forms but would rather leave the
responsibility for contacting authors with corrections to the individual
readers.
Roundtable:
Joan Brown sent information regarding the State Convention of Daughters of the
Pioneers which will be held in Oak Harbor this year.
There was no time to continue since another group was arriving to use the room.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Tentatively, Mark Preiss will
present a program about the 30th anniversary celebration of Ebey’s Landing
National Historical Reserve.
Respectfully submitted,
Anita Dragoo
