OUR TOWNS
A
Look at Island County’s History
Island County Historical Society is currently featuring Our Towns, thru
December 31, 2007. This
special exhibit, which will be located in the museum’s main gallery, will take
the visitor on a journey through
Whidbey
Island
from the mid to late nineteenth century until the present day, chronicling the
rich and diverse history of our island’s town and communities.
Photographs,
maps, pioneer diaries, oral accounts, and historic items from the museum’s
collection are just a few of the things that will educate visitors about Whidbey
and take them from the early days of settlement to the present day of mass
transit and the internet. Mini
“rooms” have been created within the museum using furniture and other items
from the collection which have not been seen by the
public for a very long time.
Some of the areas to be highlighted are
Clinton,
Maxwelton, Bayview, Langley,
Freeland, Greenbank, Coupeville, San de Fuca,
Oak
Harbor,
and
Deception
Pass.
We believe that this will be one of our most informative and exciting
exhibits to date
.
Whidbey Island Bank has sponsored this exhibit with a generous contribution.
