Penn Cove Water Festival, 1930's, DVD

  • These black and white images were recorded to be shown in theaters across the country by Fox Movietone News.  While not politcally correct by today's standards, they reflect attitudes of their time.  The Water Festival disappeared shortly after World War II broke out, and was resurrected in the 1990's.  Today, as in years past, natives from throughout the Pacific Northwest race canoes over a three mile course on the protected waters of beautiful Penn Cove, in Coupeville, Washington.

Please note: the first two episodes on this DVD are silent, as they were orginally produced.  Any sound accompaniment was likely provided by a live piano or organ player.  The footage that follows the silent sections uses the latest "soundy" technology.
