Sunnyside Cemetery - 2PM

Join the American Legion Post 129 VFW and The Fleet Reserves for a flag ceremony at Sunnyside Cemetery, 1PM.

In honor of this year’s 2025 celebration of the July 4, 1776, founding of our country, local historians Lee James and Dan Mccone will offer a guided tour with a focus on several of Sunnyside Cemetery’s earliest pioneering families. But for the first time in our annual tour, we will trace back from headstones to family ancestors who served in the East Coast Continental Army and state militias.

You’ll see official records documenting when and where soldiers served and what, exactly, they did during the Revolutionary War. We’ll get a sense for what it was like on the home front as well; it took a village to support the soldier.

Local descendants of Revolutionary War soldiers, please know that we are extending a hardy welcome for you to attend!
